Back to school health fair set for August 2

Do your kids need a hair cut or school supplies before school starts?

Chandler First Assembly of God will be hosting a Health Fair from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, August 2 at the church, located at the intersection of FM 315 and FM 2010.

The church will be offering free backpacks stuffed with school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

Other services provided at the fair will include vision checks by Eye Care Associates of East Texas, dental screenings by St. Paul Dental Clinic and a blood drive by Carter BloodCare.

Local hairstylists will be on-site providing free hair cuts, Carol Collins will bring her petting zoo to the fair and the church plans on serving hot dogs, drinks and other concessions as well.

Everything at the Health Fair will be free of charge.

“It's our first year to do it, it'll grow,” Pastor Mark Fulks said.

Fulks, along with the superintendent and several teachers who attend the church, thought the fair would be a great way to help underprivileged BISD students.

“We want to make it easier on the kids and parents before school starts,” Fulks said. “Try to fulfill a basic need for our community and for the kids for free.”

Fulk said the church is “looking to do one event that benefits” the community, one where “people know every year they can come get their kid's hair cut and stuff like that.”
