Harvey Ray Shipman

Harvey Ray Shipman, 80, of Brownsboro, died Friday, March 10, 2017, in Tyler, Texas.

Mr. Shipman was born November 21, 1936, in Hanna, OK to the late Ira and Trevel Shipman. He graduated from Hanna High School and served in the United States Air Force.

He met and married his wife, Sandra, in 1960 in Austin, and moved to Tyler in 1962.

He retired from Kelly Springfield Tire Company in 1992 after 30 years.

Harvey’s favorite hobby was working on and restoring old cars and trucks of which he has many. He loved flying airplanes and had his private license and had owned several. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors and his garage. He also enjoyed racing and had done drag racing, circle track racing and going to NASCAR races.

He was a member of Sharon Shrine Temple, St. John’s Masonic Lodge, United Rubber Workers Local 746, American Legion and V.F.W.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Harvey “Ray” Shipman, Jr. on Sept. 17, 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of 56 years, one son, Mike Shipman of Chandler,, three granddaughters, Chantel Galaz and husband, Ruben, of Lindale, Channah Shipman of Tyler, Chrysta Knutson and husband, Josh, of Tyler, one grandson, Austin Shipman of Kerrville, one great-grandson, Gavin Galaz, and two great-granddaughters, Raleigh and Finley Knutson. He also has another great grandchild on the way.

Harvey and Sandra’s love story began in 1959 and continues to this day. Never separated in life, they will not be separated in death. Harvey’s ashes will be kept until Sandra joins him and their combined ashes will be spread together.

Per Harvey’s request, there will not be a memorial service.
