April 12-23

The Chandler Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Charity Golf Tournament and Hole-in-One Shootout at Winchester Park on April 12- 20. The golfer closest to the 100-yard hole qualifies for the finals at Pine Springs Golf Club on April 23. There is a $100,000 prize for a hole-in-one. The golf tournament on April 21st will be a four-man scramble. Entry fees cover green fees, lunch, golf cart and range balls. Monetary prizes will be given for first and second place. Proceeds from the event will provide scholarships for BISD students. Call Rick Ford at (903)849-5930 for more information.

April 20

The Brownsboro Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be at 6pm, April 20, at Calvary Baptist Church in Brownsboro. Tickets are $17.50 and can be purchased through the Brownsboro Chamber of Commerce at city hall or by any board member. There will be a silent auction. Catering will be done by Los Dos Potrillos.

April 22

‘Movies in the Park” will be starting soon in Chandler. The line-up is tentatively scheduled as follows: April 22 - Rogue One, May 20 - Sing and June 17 - Finding Dory. Movies and popcorn are free. Movies begin at 8:30. Sponsors for the movies are being sought as well. Sponsorships are for $250. If you are interest in being a sponsor, please call City Hall at (903)849-6853, opt 6.

April 22

A License to Carry class will be taught by Dr. Cade Allen through the TVCC Continuing Education Department. There will be a class on Saturday, April 22 from 8am - 1pm. For information on location, call 903-675-6212. Please do not bring firearms onto the college campus. These items are not required for this class but should be available for the shooting proficiency test if the student chooses to continue with the unsponsored activity after class: Eye protection, ear protection, approved ammunition (no reloads), handgun (.38 caliber or larger). Rentals may be available with prior request to the instructor.

April 28

There will be a meeting of the Brownsboro Young Farmers at 6pm, April 28 in the Brownsboro High School Agriculture Building.

April 25-30

The Spring Art Auction and Show in scheduled for April 25-30 at TVCC. The Cardinal Auction will open at 10am, Tuesday and close at 4pm Wednesday, while the show continues through Sunday in the lower and upper foyers of the Ginger Murchison Learning Resource Center on the Athens campus. Show hours will be 8am-4:30pm Tuesday- Friday, 1-5pm Saturday and 2-5pm Sunday. Admission is free and the public is invited.

April 26

Lake Palestine United Methodist Church will have a special event at 6:30pm, April 26. Joe Martinez, special guest speaker, member of the Comanche Nation, will give a presentation on the incorporation of Christianity into the Comanche culture. He will also have a display of his grandfather’s WWII memorabilia. His grandfather was a ‘Wind Talker’ in WWII.

April 29

The Old Main Street Station is excited to announce the launching of the fourth season of the Farmers’ Market in Chandler. Opening day for market will be Saturday, April 29. The Market will be open Tuesday-Saturday. Vendor information: Ronda Cade 903- 515-3502. New stores opening at the Old Main Street Station - Generations Salon - a beauty salon, and Stillwater Farm Dairy Shop - featuring real homemade ice cream, natural beef and pork and fresh spreads.

May 13

The Women's Unity Fellowship’s annual Redneck Soiree will be at 7pm, Saturday, May 13, at the Birdwells’. Wayland Hicks will provide entertainment. Cost is $25 per person. For more information call 903-521-7639.

May 20

Free movie night in the park will be at the Grand Pavilion in Winchester Park at 8:30pm. Concessions open at 8pm. Sponsors are Nolan Insurance, Ace Hardware, Celebrations’ Flowers and Gifts, Women’s Unity Fellowship, Air Chandler and Dreams Come True Travel. SING will be the movie on May 20.

May 27

The East Texas Crisis Center will host its fifth annual ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’ event Saturday, May 27, 2017 during Fiddlers Festival. Deadline to register is May 10. Special shoes designed for men will be provided. You can walk as an individual ($200) or have a team (teams limited to 4 to 6 men $500 per team). Come by the East Texas Crisis Center and register.
