Dorothy Mae Menefee

Dorothy Mae Menefee, 96, passed away on December 20, 2017 surrounded by family. At the time of her passing, she was residing near Lafayette, LA.

Funeral services were held at Delhomme

Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette on December 22, 2017. Burial services will be held at 1:30pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in Chandler Memorial Funeral Home in Chandler, TX.

Mrs. Menefee was the daughter of the late William Birdwell and the former Oma Adams.

Dorothy, was born and raised in Chandler where she married Douglas W. Menefee at the end of WWII. In pursuit of work during the oil boom, they moved to Hobbs, NM where she gave birth to two daughters, Sharla and Sherry; and became a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. From 1961-1979 she lived in or traveled to over fifteen countries across five continents.

Upon returning home to Chandler, she became active in civic organizations and served two non-consecutive terms as an elected member on the Chandler City Council.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharla Thomason (Jim), and Sherry Menefee; nine grandchildren, Jim D. Thomason (Nancy), Douglas S. Menefee (Leigha), JD Thomason (HueyChin), Wayne Lobb and Odelice Santana; four great grandchildren, Jean-yves Thomason, Katrina Liaw, Charlotte Liaw, and Sara Thomason; and one brother, Howard Birdwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Douglas W. Menefee

The family would like to thank her caregiver, Sheila and the staff of Pelican Pointe for their compassionate care.
